Contact Has Already Done What You’re Asking Them to Do

Many of our texting campaigns ask people to do something, such as voting in an election or registering to vote. Sometimes we reach people who’ve already done the action we’re texting about.

If They’ve Already Voted

Follow the campaign instructions for how to respond when someone has already voted. Often there will be an option for “Already Voted.”

Make sure they're talking about the right election! For example, if we're texting for a runoff election, they may say, “I already voted last month” and mean a prior election. If you’re unsure, it doesn’t hurt to ask to clarify.

If They’ve Already Registered to Vote or Requested a Ballot

Follow the campaign instructions for how to respond when someone has already voted. Often there will be an option for “Already Registered” or “Already Requested Ballot.”
